Day one over at Provincial Senior Mixed

Opening day is in the books at the Provincial Senior Mixed Curling Championships, for mixed curling teams age 50 and over, being played at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. Six teams are taking part, playing a round robin, with a two game championship round. After the first two draws, two Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club rinks, skipped by defending champion Blair Jay, and by Mel Bernard, are in the lead, having won both their games. Teams at 1 and 1 are Walter Callaghan from the host club, and Geoff Scutt from Cornwall, while Bob MacWilliams of Cornwall, and Donald Clarey of Montague did not manage to pick up an opening day victory.

In the opening draw, Callaghan shaded MacWilliams 6-5, Bernard beat Clarey 8-3, and Jay stole a triple in the final end for an 8-5 win over Scutt.

Draw two saw Jay take only four ends to trounce Clarey 8-2, Bernard follow a four point fourth end with a stolen triple in the fifth for an 8-3 win over Callaghan, and Scutt beat Cornwall clubmate and former event champion MacWilliams by a 7-5 score.

Round robin play wraps up on Saturday with draws at 10 am and 2 and 7 pm.  Tiebreakers, if needed, go Sunday morning at 10, with the semi-final at 2 pm and the final at 7.
