SUMMERSIDE — Mike Gaudet of Summerside is hoping he can draw on past experiences at this year’s Tim Hortons Brier.

Gaudet and his Charlottetown Curling Club rink open play in the Canadian men’s curling championship against Saskatchewan’s Scott Manners on Saturday afternoon.

“A good thing is I took a few years off skipping, and I learned a lot stepping down,” said Gaudet, who played third on Eddie MacKenzie’s P.E.I. rink at last year’s Brier. “I’m back skipping now, and I feel I call a lot better game. I’m looking forward to it.”

Gaudet’s teammates are third stone Tyler MacKenzie, second stone Tyler Harris and lead Sean Clarey.

“We all get along, we are all pretty good friends and it was our first year playing together,” said Gaudet, 39. “I played with two of them before, Tyler Harris and Sean Clarey.

“We are all pretty comfortable with each other, and that plays a big part of it. The team chemistry is great.”

Team P.E.I.’s fifth player is Andrew Robinson, and Peter Gallant will serve as coach.
