PEI looks to add to medal count today at Special Olympics Winter Games (Journal)

ST. ALBERT, Alta. – Team P.E.I. added to its medal count during Friday’s action here at the Special Olympics National Winter Games.

Callie Wood of Montague won a silver while Lorne Blackett of Souris picked up a bronze in their respective 200-metre snowshoeing events.

Team P.E.I. has now won six gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

Curling

The Greg St. John-skipped curling rink from Charlottetown and Cornwall, which also includes Phillip Chugg, John Anthony Laybolt, Monique Gauthier and Chris MacPherson, defeated Nova Scotia 8-2 on Friday to finish round-robin play 3-0 (won-lost). P.E.I., coached by Dick St. John and Ann Doucette, will face Nova Scotia in today’s gold-medal game.

P.E.I.’s floor hockey team, which beat Alberta 11-5 and lost 7-1 to British Columbia, will play Alberta in the bronze-medal game today.
