The men’s and women’s finals get underway at 4 pm at the Curl Atlantic Championship at Charlottetown’s CARI Complex. Tickets are available at the door.

The men’s final sees PEI’s Adam Casey of PEI take on Nova Scotia’s Chad Stevens rink, while Kathy O’Rourke of PEI faces Sylvie Robichaud of New Brunswick in the women’s final.

Casey beat Alan O’Leary of NS 8-2 to advance, in the only game of the semi-finals where the score was not very close. The other men’s game went into an extra end, with Chad Stevens of Nova Scotia hitting and staying with his final shot to win over Mark Dacey, also from NS.

The Veronica Smith junior team from Cornwall, a last minute fill-in when another team could not make it, stole the 7th end in their semi-final game against Sylvie Robichaud of New Brunswick to take a 4-3 lead coming home without hammer. Smith had to get in behind a Robichaud rock with her last stone in the 8th end, but was light, and Robichaud picked up 3 points to win 6-4, and advance to the final. The other women’s game was a battle of two Island rinks, with  Kathy O’Rourke stealing 1 in the final end to win 7-5 over Suzanne Birt, to go to the final game. Birt tried a double runback with her final stone, but one of the rocks stayed around, and O’Rourke picked up the win.
