Defending champ Birt, last yr’s runner-up O’Rourke both playing in 8am Lady Monctonian quarters,

The defending champion Suzanne Birt rink, and last year’s runners-up, the Kathy O’Rourke team, both from PEI, are among the rinks competing in the quarter-final round, which got underway at 8 am, in the annual Lady Monctonian cashspiel at Curl Moncton. Birt is playing Tania Phillips, and leads 3-0 after two ends, while O’Rourke and Sylvie Robichaud are tied at 1 after two. The other games have Heather Smith leading Mary-Anne Arsenault 1-0 after one end, and Kelly MacIntosh leading Melissa Adams 2-0 after two. Birt had a 4-1 win-loss record in round robin play, her only loss being to O’Rourke, who also went 4-1.

The other PEI rink in the event, skipped by Kim Dolan, started off with a pair of wins, but lost their next 3 games, each by a single point, to Robichaud, Phillips, and Arsenault, to finish out of the playoffs.

The semis are at 11, with the final at 2 pm.
