McEwen wins Challenge Chateau Cartier de Gatineau. Casey, Gushue make it to the quarter-finals

Mike McEwen and his Winnipeg rink were considered the top seeds to win the Challenge Chateau Cartier World Curling Tour event, which wrapped up today in the Gatineau QC area, and they didn’t disappoint. The foursome beat the home town team, Gatineau’s Jean-Michel Menard squad, by a 5-3 score in the final. McEwen defeated fellow ‘Pegger Reid Carruthers 9-5 in the semi-finals, while Menard beat Don Bowser of Kingston ON 5-2 in the other semi.

In the morning quarter-finals, PEI’s Adam Casey rink lost 5-1 to  Bowser  in 5 ends, while the Brad Gushue team from St. John’s, which includes PEI native Brett Gallant lost 4-3 to Menard. Mike McEwen won by default over Mark Dacey of Halifax,  Carruthers beat Peter de Cruz of Switzerland 5-2.
