PEI’s MacLean and Smith teams to face off this morning in consolation round quarter-final at Ottawa Superspiel

The Matthew MacLean rink from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary and the Cornwall Curling Club, and the Veronica Smith team from Cornwall are playing each other at 10 am Atlantic in a consolation round quarter-final at the 21st annual JSI-OVCA Junior Superspiel, which wraps up today in the Ottawa area.
The loser will be eliminated from the competition, while the winner will play in a consolation semi-final at 1 pm. The consolation final takes place at 5 pm Atlantic.
Smith lost her first three games, but picked up a 9-4 win in her fourth, by a 9-4 score, to earn the consolation quarter-final berth. MacLean also went 3-1, with a 7-4 victory in draw 2.
Over in the championship round, 2013 Canadian Junior champ Matt Dunstone from Winnipeg qualified on the A side, with Cathlia Ward of Fredericton NB qualifying first in the women’s event. B side qualifiers were Felix Asselin from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec (men) and Mary Fay from Chester NS (women). The C side qualifiers are being determined with the 10 am draw this morning. The semis are at 1 pm, with the finals at 5.
