PEI Newcomers take to the ice at the Cornwall Curling Club (with video, pics)

Dozens of newcomers to our country had a chance to try the very Canadian sport of curling at the Cornwall Curling Club on three Sunday evenings in January. The ice was filled with curlers of all ages each evening, with new curlers each night, as well as some returning for multiple nights. The last night had so many curlers signed up that an additional evening, February 8, from 6-8 PM, has been scheduled. The event is a collaboration between the curling club, and the PEI Association for Newcomers to Canada, with funding assistance for the ice rental provided under the Sport Partnership and Engagement Program, a project of the Sport Participation Bilateral which is jointly funded by the Province of PEI (Department of Health and Wellness) and the Federal Government (Canadian Heritage – Sport Canada). Instruction was provided by volunteers from the curling club.

If there are additional PEI newcomers who would like to register for the final night, they are asked to contact Joe Byrne at the PEIANC at [email protected] or (902) 628-6009 ext. 224.
