Birt rink in playoff contention at the Scotties (Journal)

P.E.I. moves over .500 mark Wednesday morning

MOOSE JAW, Sask. – The Suzanne Birt rink is right in the thick of the playoff race at the 2015 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Skip Suzanne Birt, left, and third stone Shelly Bradley discuss strategy during the 2015 provincial women’s curling championship in Summerside last month. The Birt rink is 4-3 (won-lost) at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts national women’s curling championship in Moose Jaw, Sask.

Birt, who curls out of the Charlottetown Curling Complex, used a four-ender and a pair of deuces to outlast Quebec’s Lauren Mann 10-6 in Wednesday morning’s draw at the Canadian women’s curling championship. The result leaves Birt, third stone Shelly Bradley, second stone Michelle McQuaid and lead Susan McInnis at 4-3 (won-lost) – good enough for a three-way tie with Ontario’s Julie Hastings and Northern Ontario’s Tracy Horgan. Quebec fell to 1-7.
