Veronica Smith raising money for Schmirler Foundation by selling tickets on Storm game this Sunday

PEI Skip Veronica Smith throws during the first game at Juniors

My name is Veronica Smith I am a third year business student at UPEI. I have been a part of the UPEI Women’s curling team the past three seasons, and been successful in earning the right to representing UPEI at three CIS events. I have also represented PEI at the past three Canadian Junior Nationals.

I was very fortunate last May to be selected as (one of the six in Canada) a Sandra Schmirler Scholar. A Schmirler Scholar is a university student who is very competitive in the junior curling circuit. A requirement of this scholarship is to hold a fundraising event in our home province where we can raise funds and awareness about the Foundation.

The Sandra Schmirler Foundation is a foundation that helps babies who are born prematurely with giving funds to neonatal intensive care units across the country. The motto is “Champions start small”.  The link below will take you to their website where you can see what they have accomplished and some more information about the Foundation.

For my fundraiser I am selling tickets for an Island Storm basketball game on Sunday Feb 22. The Island Storm will be playing St. John Millrats at 2pm. The tickets are $10 with 100% of the proceeds from these ticket sales will go to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

I would love to have the support of the curling community in my fundraising efforts, as I believe this is a worthy cause and a great opportunity. If you are not able to attend the game, but would still like to support me through raising funds for the foundation you can make a donation to foundation by clicking on this link.
