Gallant and MacDonald advance to PEI Senior Men’s A qualifier

Play got underway today, after a one-day postponement due to weather and road conditions, at the PEI Credit Unions Provincial Senior Men’s championship at the Montague Curling Club.  After two draws in the six team modified triple knockout competition, the Peter Gallant rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex and the Rod MacDonald foursome, from the Charlottetown complex and the Silver Fox curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, have advanced to the first of three qualifier games. That “A” section qualifier game goes at 11 am Sunday, with the winner getting a berth in the two game championship round on Wednesday.

In today’s opening draw, Gallant scored three in the final end to beat Montague’s Donald Clarey 6-4, while it took an extra end for Mel Bernard to get by Silver Fox clubmate Blair Jay by a 4-3 count.

Gallant then doubled clubmate Bill Hope 6-3 in the second draw, while MacDonald stole a deuce in the fourth end, and singles in 5 and 6 to beat Bernard 7-2 in six ends.

Besides the A final Sunday at 11, Clary takes on Bernard, and Jay plays Hope in B section games at the same time. The other Sunday draw goes at 3 pm.
