Mackay, Noye rinks win Provincial U18; Lenentine, MacFadyen teams also earned berths in Atlantic Ch’ships (men’s pics added)

The Curl PEI Provincial Under 18 Curling Championships wrapped up on Monday at the Crapaud Community Curling Club, with the four rinks who will advance to the Atlantic Under 18 championships from April 3-5 in Montague decided.  Because PEI is the host province, there will be two women’s and two men’s teams advancing this year. The women’s and men’s divisions of the provincials both had four teams entered.

The women’s division was decided on Sunday, with the Kaleigh Mackay foursome, who have recently competed in the Canada Games, and curl out of the Crapaud, Montague, and Charlottetown clubs, sweeping all three sections of the modified triple knockout round to win the U18 title without playing the Monday championship round. The Mackay rink won the A section final 5-3 over Lauren Moerike and her Charlottetown squad, and beat the Lauren Lenentine rink from Cornwall in the other two section finals, winning the B by an 8-4 score, and the low-scoring C final by a score of 3-2, in a game with four blank ends, where neither team scored more than a single point in an end. The Lenentine rink is awarded the runner-up position and a berth in the Atlantics because they won two of the three sections.
