Snowmobile trip needed for Holland College Hurricanes to get to curling nationals (Guardian)

It took a six-kilometre snowmobile ride to get the Holland College Hurricanes curling team in the air and headed to nationals.

Athletics and recreation manager Albert Roche said second Sabrina Smith, a Breadalbane native, needed the snowmobile ride to get to a waiting vehicle on Monday. She made it to the Charlottetown Airport with minutes to spare before the mid-afternoon flight left for Toronto. The team was headed for Olds, Alta., for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championship.“There certainly were some trying moments with (snowmobiles) and everything else to ensure we got everybody there,” Roche said Monday night. “We just want it to be uneventful from here on in.”

The Hurricanes play Wednesday at 2 p.m. Atlantic against the host Olds College.

The Angela Hodgson-coached team is made up of lead Bethany Dauphinee (Liverpool, N.S.), third Breanna Huntley (New Minas, N.S.), skip Jaylene Holmes-Tang (Gravenhurst, Ont.) and alternate Kellie-Lynn Younker (Cornwall). It curled out of the Cornwall Curling Club in preparation for the event.

“I’m very excited to be able to represent my school again at the national level,” said Jaylene Holmes-Tang, also a member of the college’s varsity golf team that competed at the nationals in Quebec in the fall.
