Casey, Birt rinks bounce back at Grand Slam. Gushue vs Casey on Sportsnet at 7pm (Journal)

PARADISE, N.L. – It was a bounce-back day for two P.E.I.-based rinks here at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Tour Challenge.

The Adam Casey-skipped team, including third stone Dave Mathers, second stone Alex Forrest, who is subbing for Anson Carmody, and lead Robbie Doherty, jumped out to a 4-0 first-end lead over Scotland’s David Murdoch en route to a 7-4 win to even its record in the men’s Tier 1 Division at 1-1 (won-lost).The Casey rink will face local favourite Brad Gushue in Thursday evening’s draw. That game will be televised live on Sportsnet One at 7 p.m., Atlantic Time.Charlottetown native Brett Gallant plays second stone for Gushue.

Birt wins

Meanwhile, the Suzanne Birt rink improved its record to 1-2 after a 12-3 triumph over Manitoba’s Michelle Montford.

The Birt team’s next game is against Nina Roth of the United States on Friday.
