Casey and Gushue both advance to Gatineau semis, Birt out in Lady Monctonian quarters

PEI’s Adam Casey rink, and the Brad Gushue team, which includes PEI native Brett Gallant at second stone, have both advanced to the 1:30 pm Atlantic semi-final round at the Challenge Château Cartier de Gatineau event in Gatineau Quebec. Gushue downed local favourite Guy Hemmings 8-2, while Casey doubled Shawn Adams of Halifax 6-3 in this morning’s quarter-final round. Team Casey will be taking on Ontario’s Mark Bice team in the semis, while the Gushue rink face Edinburgh Scotland’s young Bruce Mouat team. The final in the $45,000 (total purse) event goes at 4:30 pm AT.

Meanwhile, at the Lady Monctonian at Curl Moncton, PEI’s Suzanne Birt team lost their quarter-final game this morning against Mary Mattatall of Halifax by a 7-5 score. Mattatall is playing Kristen MacDiarmid, and Theresa Breen is battling Melissa Adams in the semis. The championship game goes at 2 pm.
