9 am Fox Fall Fling semis set, finals go at 1

The Fall Fling Junior Cashspiel wraps up today at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside, with the men’s and women’s semi-finals going at 9 am, and the winners advancing to the 1 pm finals. The winning teams will go home with $600, with the runners-up grabbing $300, and the remaining semi-finalists receiving $125. Today’s games are ten ends in length. 12 men’s and an equal number of women’s teams from around the Maritimes began play Friday in this 9th annual event for curlers under 21. The  women’s semis see the Samantha Crook rink from the Gage Golf and Curling Association take on the Lauren Lenentine foursome from the Cornwall Curling Club, and Cornwall’s Lauren Moerike squad face the Mary Fay team from the Chester Curling Club in Nova Scotia. Crook and Fay both went through round robin play undefeated, while Lenentine and Moerike each had one loss.

In men’s play, the Tyler Smith rink from Montague was the only undefeated team in the round robin, while the host Club’s Alex MacFadyen team and the Leslie Noye foursome from the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton each had only one loss. The Jack Smeltzer squad from Fredericton’s Capital Winter Club is the fourth team to advance to the 9 am semis, finishing round robin play with a 3-2 win-loss record. The semi matchups see MacFadyen play Noye, and Smith face Smeltzer.
