Alberta wins Canadian Mixed, PEI finishes at 2-7

The 2016 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship wrapped up on Saturday afternoon in Toronto, with Mick Lizmore’s Alberta squad from Edmonton completing  a perfect, unbeaten week with a 4-2 win over Saskatchewan’s Bruce Korte in the gold-medal game.

With the win, Lizmore, third Sarah Wilkes, second Brad Thiessen and lead Alison Kotylak will represent Canada at the 2016 World Mixed Championship, Oct. 15-22 in Kazan, Russia. The 2017 Canadian Mixed Championship is scheduled for Nov. 14-19, 2016, in Yarmouth, N.S.

PEI, skipped by Eddie MacKenzie, finished round robin play with a 1-5 win-loss record, beating BC’s Dean Joanisse rink, and losing a close 7-6 match to Lizmore in their final game, and then competed in the Seeding Pool, where they picked up a win against Nunavut, after losses to Manitoba, and Ontario, finishing with an overall 2-7 record for the event.
