Five Island rinks heading to Halifax for weekend cashspiel

The Dave Jones Mayflower Cashspiel goes this Thursday through Sunday Nov. 19-22 at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, with 40 teams taking part, including three women’s and two men’s rinks from PEI. Men’s play gets underway Thursday morning at 8:30,  with the 24 men’s teams playing a triple knockout format. The 16 women’s rinks play a 4 pool round robin format, beginning at 8:30 Thursday evenings. Six women’s teams and 8 men’s will then advance to their respective championship rounds, which get underway Sunday with quarter-finals at 8:45 am, semi-finals at noon, and the finals at 3 pm. The PEI rinks competing are the Suzanne Birt, Shelly Bradley, and Kim Dolan women’s teams, and the Adam Casey and John Likely men’s rinks, all from the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

Teams from outside the Maritimes in the event include the Guy Hemmings rink from Quebec, and the Brad Gushue foursome from St. John’s, which includes PEI native Brett Gallant. Also attending is the Sven Michel team from Switzerland, and the Matt Paul foursome from Ontario, as well as the Lauren Gray women’s rink from Scotland.  Click for full team rosters.

Admission to watch the action at the Mayflower is $5 a draw, $15 for the event, or $20 for a reserved seat for the event. Donations of non-perishable food items are accepted at the door for Feed NS.
