PEI teams both open with wins at the Travelers Curling Club Ch’ship in Ottawa

It was a great opening day for the Island teams at the Travelers Curling Club Championship at the  Ottawa Hunt Golf and Curling Club. The event officially kicked off with celebrated local curlers Craig Savill, Rick Bachand, Emma Miskew and Cheryl Kreviazuk tossing the ceremonial opening stone in front of many visiting fans and families of the 256 competing curlers.

In the opening draw, the PEI Men’s team, skipped by Freddy Fraser out of the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, doubled Nunavut 6-3. PEI plays Newfoundland and Labrador (Andrew Symonds) this afternoon.

The Island women’s team, skipped by Lisa Jackson, from the Cornwall Curling Club, won by the same score, 6-3 over the Pam Osborne rink from Newfoundland and Labrador. PEI faces Nova Scotia (Monica Moriarty) and Quebec (Sonia Simard) today.
