The Montague Curling Rink is the host for the 2016 PEI Scotties Provincial Women’s Curling Championship, and the Future Scotties developmental event for female curlers under age 21, who may one day compete in the Scotties. These events, sponsored by Kruger Products, take place January 15-18, 2016. with six Scotties and five Future Scotties teams taking part. The modified triple-knockout Scotties draw, Future Scotties round robin draw (each team plays 3 games), and games schedule are now available below.

Here are the opening draws for the Scotties, which begins on Friday and wraps up with the Sunday 7 pm draw if one team wins all three sections, or on Monday with the 10 am or 3 pm draw.

Friday January 15 at 10 am

Lisa Jackson vs Sarah Fullerton, Tammy Dewar vs Shelly Bradley

Friday January 15 at 3 pm

Suzanne Birt vs the winner of the Jackson/Fullerton game, Kim Dolan vs winner of the Dewar/Bradley match

Other draws go Saturday January 16 at 9 am and 2 and 7 pm, Sunday the 17th at 2 and 7 pm, with the championship round, if necessary, scheduled 10 am and 3 pm on Monday the 18th.

If a team wins all three modified triple knockout sections, the championship round will not be required. If a team wins two sections, they will play the other qualifier in two championship round games, and take the title if they win either, while their opponent would have to win both. If there are three separate winners, the team that played in the most section qualifying games will get a bye to the second game, and await the winner of the game between the other two section winners.

It was Birt’s 8th PEI women’s title. She is back, with a new team, this year. This year’s winning team advances to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts. February 20-28, 2016 at Revolution Place, in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
