P.E.I. junior women start off against Nova Scotia

STRATFORD, ONT. – Pressure’s a given when representing your province in a national championship, acknowledges Katie Fullerton.

Katie Fullerton.

She’s skip of the P.E.I. women’s rink at the Canadian junior curling championships in Stratford, Ont.

“But that’s not necessarily a bad thing,” says Fullerton. “A little added pressure helps to heighten our team’s concentration, and it reinforces us to focus on making our shots.”

Although this will be Fullerton’s first championship as skip, neither she nor two of her teammates are new to the national stage.

Fullerton, who calls the game and throws third stones; mate Chloe McCloskey, who throws fourth stones, and second stone Sabrina Smith are all making their fourth consecutive trip to nationals.

Fullerton pronounced herself “prepared, excited, and ready” for her new responsibilities at the national level.
