Dave Jones Mayflower Cashspiel: Brothers (with PEI native Carmody) repeats as women’s champ, Murphy win’s men’s division

There’s a repeat winner, and a repeat runner-up in the women’s section at this year’s Dave Jones Cashspiel at the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax, with the Jill Brothers rink from the host club again beating the Theresa Breen team, this time by a 5-4 score, in the final. Team Brothers, which includes Summerside PEI native Erin Carmody at third stone, pockets $3400 for the win, while Team Breen goes home with $2200. Breen, also from Halifax, was leading 4-2 coming home, but Brothers stole a triple in the final end for the come-from-behind victory. PEI’s Robyn MacPhee rink finished out of the money round, with an even 2-2 win-loss record.

On the men’s side, Jamie Murphy of Halifax stole an extra-end single to get by clubmate Stuart Thompson by a 5-4 score in the final. Murphy goes home with $6000, while Thompson settles for $4000.  PEI’s Eddie MacKenzie and Jamie Newson rinks didn’t manage to pick up a win in the event.
