Sylvie Robichaud, Jean-Michel Menard rinks win Jim Sullivan Curling Classic, Veronica Smith bows out in quarter-finals

The Jim Sullivan Curling Classic wrapped up this afternoon at the Thistle-St. Andrews Curling Club in Saint John, with the Sylvie Robichaud rink from Moncton, and the Jean-Michel Menard foursome from Quebec winning the cashspiel. Menard beat Moncton’s James Grattan 6-1 in the final, after edging Mike Kennedy, also of Moncton, 5-4 in the semi-final. Robichaud stole the final end to shade Christie Gamble of Halifax 5-4 in the final, after stealing a deuce in an extra end to get by Heidi Hanlon of Saint John 5-3 in the semi. Menard goes home with $5000, while Robichaud receives $1700.

PEI’s Veronica Smith rink was up one coming home with last rock advantage in their quarter-final game against the Gamble team, but Gamble stole the eighth, and then stole the extra end for a 4-3 win. PEI’s Tyler Harris finished with a 2-3 win-loss record in the men’s section, just out of the playoffs.
