PEI’s Adam Casey drew for a deuce in the 8th end to defeat defending champion Steve Laycock 11-3 in the SaskTel Tankard final Sunday afternoon in Tisdale SK to advance to the Tim Hortons Brier, March 4-12 in St. John’s NL. Laycock struggled with draw weight throughout the game, in which Casey picked up triples in ends 1, 3, and 4 to build up a 9-1 lead after only 4 ends.

Casey beat Laycock 8-5 in the Page A vs B game Saturday evening to advance directly to the championship game, while Laycock squeaked by Bruce Korte in the Sunday morning semi-final 7-6 in an extra end to get to the final. Saskatchewan teams in the provincial men’s championship are allowed one out-of-province curler, and Winsloe PEI resident and Seven Mile Bay native Casey, who skipped winning PEI Tankard teams in 2015 and 2016, joined the rink skipped by Sean Meacham this season, and then moved up to skip position, with Catlin Schneider playing third, Meachem at second, and lead Dustin Kidby.
