UPEI Women (Sabrina Smith) 1-1, Men (Chris Gallant) 1-0 after opening day at the AUS Ch’ships

Day one is over at the Subway Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Curling Championships at the Truro Curling Club, and both UPEI teams have a win under their belts.

Team UPEI Women, skipped by Sabrina Smith, lost their opener 8-3 to UNB, but rebounded with a come-from-behind win against Saint Mary’s, trailing 6-1 after 5 ends, but taking four points in the sixth and stealing the seventh and eighth ends to pull out a 7-6 win.

Team UPEI Men, skipped by Christopher Gallant, had only one game on opening day, against St. FX, winning it handily – 11-3 in six ends.

Team UNB Men, which includes PEI native Alex Sutherland, is 2-0 on the men’s side.
