Berry, Gorveatt win Seniors “C” Finals. Ebbett, Gorveatt could win ch’ships with 2 pm draw

Two teams – the Shelley Ebbett women’s rink, and the Phil Gorveatt men’s team, both from the host Charlottetown Curling Complex, have won two modified triple knockout sections, and are just one win away from winning their respective PEI Credit Unions Provincial Seniors (50 and over) Championships. A win in the 2 pm draw, against the other section winners, the Shirley Berry women’s team from Cornwall, and the Robert Campbell men’s foursome from Charlottetown would give them the title. If Campbell or Berry win, they would force a deciding game on Monday at 10 am.

Berry punched her ticket to the championship round this morning by scoring a deuce in the final end to edge Iva Griffin and her Western Community and Maple Leaf curling club team by a 9-8 score, while Gorveatt won his second triple knockout section with an 8-3 victory over Campbell.

The eventual men’s and women’s winners will advance to the 2017 Everest Canadian Seniors Curling Championships, March 18-26 in Fredericton NB. The competition will be played at two facilities: the Capital Winter Club and Willie O’Ree Place, with the men’s and women’s finals both scheduled for the latter.

Four men’s and four women’s teams took part in the PEI championship.
