Shelley Ebbett rink wins PEI Credit Unions Provincial Senior Women’s curling title

The Shelley Ebbett rink from the host Charlottetown Curling Complex and the Cornwall Curling Club doubled Cornwall’s Shirley Berry foursome 6-3 this morning to win the PEI Credit Unions Provincial Senior Women’s Curling Championship. Ebbett, whose team includes third Kim Pippy, second stone Karen Hardy, and lead Sandy Hope, with coach Bill Hope, were trailing 2-1 at the fourth end break, but quickly pulled ahead in the second half with a 2 point fifth end and a steal of two more in the sixth. The teams traded singles in the final two ends, giving Ebbett the 6-3 win. Other members of the runner-up Shirley Berry team are third Janice Murdoch, second Rebecca Rolfe, and lead Hanny MacLeod. Ebbett had won two sections of the modified triple knockout draw and would have taken the title with a win in the first championship round game on Sunday, but Berry forced today’s deciding game with a 7-6 extra-end win.
