PEI Mixed Championship Round Set

The three separate section winners from the 9 team modified triple knockout draw have been decided, and now advance to Monday’s championship round at the Provincial Mixed Curling Championships, being played at the Cornwall Curling Club.

The “A” section winner, Tyler MacKenzie from the Charlottetown Curling Complex, gets a bye to the 6 pm final, and awaits the winner of the 2 pm semi-final match between B section winner Jamie Newson from Charlottetown and the Silver Fox, and “C” winner Dennis Watts from Charlottetown and the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton.

MacKenzie won the “A” final on Saturday afternoon, beating the Jamie Newson team from 6-2, aided by a 4 point 4th end.  Newson then downed Watts 11-4 in the B final at 10 on Sunday, shutting the game down early with a six-point fifth end. Watts then beat MacKenzie 7-4 to take the Sunday evening C final.  The PEI Mixed winner advances to the 2018 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, to be played in Manitoba, at the Swan River Curling Club, Nov. 12-18, 2017.
