Provincial Mixed and Under 16 Update

The provincial Mixed  continues today in Cornwall, while the Under 16 wraps up at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton.

The Tyler MacKenzie rink from the Charlottetown Curling Complex won the “A” final at the 9-team modified triple knockout Mixed Saturday afternoon, beating the Jamie Newson team from Charlottetown and the Silver Fox 6-2, aided by a 4 point 4th end.  Newson plays Dennis Watts and his Charlottetown and Western team in the B final at 10 on Sunday. The C semis go at 2 with the C  final at 6 pm with the 2 game Championship round scheduled for Monday at 2 and 6. The PEI Mixed winner advances to the 2018 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, to be played in Manitoba, at the Swan River Curling Club, Nov. 12-18, 2017.

Meanwhile, all teams have a loss and a win after the first round of the 3 team double round-robin Under 16 boys division. The teams all play again today with games at 10, 2 and 6. There is no boy’s playoff round – the winners will be determined by win-loss, head to head results, and points.

The single round robin wrapped up yesterday in the 6 team girl’s division, with the playoffs going today at 10, 2 and 6. The Rachel MacLean team from Cornwall finished the round robin at 2 0, and, along with Katie Shaw from Charlottetown (1-1)  have earned byes into the 2 pm semis. The 10 am quarter-finals see Cornwall’s Alexis Burris, and Alyssa Wilkins from the host club square off in one game, with the winner facing MacLean, while  Lauren Ferguson and Clara Jack, both from Cornwall, play in the other, with the winner facing Shaw in their semi. The semi winners will advance to t he 6 pm final.
