Men’s Semis set at the PEI Travelers, Crapaud goes undefeated and advances to women’s ch’ship game(s)

Round robin play concluded Sunday evening at the PEI Travelers Curling Club Championships being played at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton. On the men’s side, four curling clubs – the Silver Fox (Summerside), Western Community (Alberton), Charlottetown, and Crapaud all finished with 4-2 win-loss records, and have advanced to the playoff round. The Silver Fox team, skipped by Leo Stewart, were awarded first place when tiebreaking rules were brought into play, and will play the fourth-place rink, Crapaud (Alan Inman) in one 9:30 am Monday semi-final, while 2nd place Western Community (Glen Betts) and third place Charlottetown (Mitch O’Shea) square off in the other. The semi winners advance to the 1:30 pm Monday final.

Crapaud’s Julie Mutch rink went undefeated with a 5-0 record in the women’s event, and have advanced to the finals, where they will get two chances to win, as the rules state that a team undefeated in the round robin must be beaten twice. These games go at 5:30 pm Monday and, if needed, 9 am Tuesday, and will involve Crapaud and the winner of a 1:30 pm Monday game between the Silver Fox (Amanda MacLean, 4-1) and the winner of a 9 am Monday tiebreaker between Montague (Darlene MacLeod-London) and Charlottetown (Susan Dowling-Shaw), both 2-3.

The winning men’s and women’s teams will advance to the 2018 Travelers Curling Club Championship, to be played Nov. 20-25 2017 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston Ont.
