Crapaud’s Julie Mutch rink wins PEI Travelers Women’s Title

The Crapaud Community Curling Club entry, skipped by Julie Mutch, beat Susan Dowling-Shaw  and her team from the Charlottetown Curling Complex by a 6-3 score this morning at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton to win the PEI Travelers Curling Championship women’s division. The Summerside Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex rink, skipped by Leo Stewart, captured the men’s title on Monday. The Mutch and Stewart teams now advance to the 2018 national Travelers Curling Club Championship, to be played Nov. 20-25 2017 at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club in Kingston Ont.

Because Mutch went through round robin play undefeated (5-0 record), she had a “double life” in the championship round. Dowling-Shaw handed the Crapaud team their first loss on Monday evening, by a 5-3 score, to force the second championship game. The Charlottetown rink got off to a slow start, losing their first 3 games in the event, but came back to win the next five, including the first championship match.

Other members of the winning Crapaud rink are third Lindsay Moore, who throws fourth stones, second Terri Wood, and lead stone Heather MacRae.
