Panthers capture bronze at 2017 USports Curling Nationals (UPEI)

It was a productive day for Atlantic teams on the men’s side as UPEI Panther’s Chris Gallant edged the Regina Cougars and skip Sam Wills 7-6 to win the bronze medal. Gallant’s crew of Kyle Holland, Brooks Roche, Alex McFadyen and coach Larry Rathje scored the go-ahead deuce in the eighth followed up with a force in the ninth to lead by one coming home which is how it ended.

The Panthers began the week with a slow start after dropping their first two games, however, their luck would change as the Panthers finished round robin play going 4-1 and finishing with an overall record of 4-3.

The Panthers would run into a tough Alberta team in the semi’s who was all business and the game was conceded after eight ends.

This bronze marks the first time since 2010 when UPEI skipped by Brett Gallant (Chris’s brother) took home a silver medal at the then CIS National Championships
