PEI (Crossroads FD) win their Cdn. Firefighters’ opener

All 10 teams saw action in the Saturday opening draw of the 58th Canadian Firefighters Curling Championship at the Dixie Curling Club in Mississauga Ont. PEI, out of the Crossroads Fire Department and skipped by Jerry Hughes, was the only Maritime team to pick up a win – beating Northern Ontario 9-2. Other draw one winners were Alberta, beating NB  9-3, Southern Ont. – 7-4 over  NS, Sask. – 8-4 over BC, and Manitoba beating Quebec 7-1. Round-robin action continues through Thur., with draws at 9:30 and 2:30.

PEI faces NS  on Sunday morning and has a bye in the afternoon draw.
