Canada Games age curlers to compete on arena ice in Fredericton

Five teams – four from the Cornwall Curling Club, and one from the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Community Complex in Summerside, will get a rare chance to curl on arena ice next weekend at the Capital City SLAM – Canada Games Warmup Spiel, April 7-9 at the Willie O’Ree Place arena in Fredericton NB. The curling ice is already in place from the Canadian Seniors championships held there recently. The event was open to players born July 1, 2000 or later (Canada Games 2019 eligibility age).

Lead- Jack MacFadyen

Team Pineau from the Silver Fox
Skip- Cruz Pineau
Mate- Brock Richard
2nd- Noah Gallant
Lead- Brayden Snow

Team Schut from the Cornwall Curling Club
Skip- Mitchell Schut
Mate- Alec Huestis (sparing for Colin MacKenzie in this event)
2nd–  Michael MacEwen
Lead- Liam Kelly

PEI Girls’ Teams entered:

Team Ferguson from the Cornwall Curling Club
Skip- Lauren Ferguson
Mate- Emma Coffin
2nd- Sierra Clyke
Lead- Emily Sanderson

Team MacLean from the Cornwall Curling Club
Skip- Rachael MacLean
Mate- Jordan Dunphy-Condon
2nd- Olivia Barbour
Lead- Avery Nicholson

Also entered is Team Nowlan from New Brunswick, which includes Josh and Jacob Nowlan, grandsons of well-known Summerside curlers Lou and Marg Nowlan. There are a total of 16 boy’s teams and an equal number of girl’s rinks entered

The event includes:
– Guaranteed four 8 end games (teams required to play at least six ends before shaking hands)
– Team Evaluations by Certified NB Center Of Curling Excellence (CCE) Evaluators
– Cash Prizes
– Banner for winning teams
– Pizza Party

Teams play three round-robin games on Friday/Saturday, plus at least one playoff or consolation game on Sunday.
