From Hockey Ice to Curling Ice at the Road to the Roar

Ice preparation is well underway, under the direction of Chief Ice Technician Jon Wall and Deputy Chief Ice Techician Larry Richards, converting hockey ice to curling ice at the Credit Union Place in Summerside for the Road to the Roar Curling Trials, which begin on Monday. Here’s the rink on Wednesday night, still in use as a hockey venue.

Work began early Thursday morning to paint the surface white.

Larry Richards then sprinkled on water to keep the paint in place.

There’s still lots of work to do, with lines, logos, and floods, but it should be ready in lots of time for team practice on Sunday evening and Monday morning and afternoon.

New at this year’s event are electronic scoreboards, such as we saw at the last Olympics. There will also be a video wall along the boards to display advertising.
