Former PEI Women’s Champ passes away in Edmonton

Doris Bernice “Bernie” Cook, who played third stone on the 1963 PEI women’s championship team skipped by Fern Seel, with second stone Kay Hoare and lead Elsie Farquhar, passed away on December 10 in Edmonton AB at the age of 94.

She was predeceased by her husband Murray, sister Doreen and Brother Lyall. She resided in St. Albert the later part of her life but spent time across Canada as an air force wife.
She was an avid curler and represented P.E.I. in the Diamond “D” Canadian Women’s Curling Championship in 1963. Upon moving to St. Albert she was a member of the St. Albert Curling Club for many years. She was in the Alberta Seniors Provincial championship in 1979 and won many bonspiels. She also belonged to the Sturgeon Valley Golf Club where she was club champion in 1975 and won the senior championship in 1979.
