Lenentine and MacFadyen go undefeated to win Pepsi Juniors without needing Saturday round

It was a clean sweep at the Pepsi Provincial Junior Curling Championships at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary for both the defending champion Lauren Lenentine jr. women’s rink from the Cornwall Curling Club, and the Alex MacFadyen jr. men’s foursome from the Silver Fox in Summerside. Both teams went undefeated, capturing all three sections of the modified triple knockout draw, so that the event wrapped up with the “C” finals on Friday evening without playing the Saturday championship round.

In the four-team Jr. Men’s division, the Alex MacFadyen team, with third James Dalton, second stone Leslie Noye, and lead Parker MacFadyen, with coach David MacFadyen, played the Mitchell Schut rink from Cornwall in all three finals, winning 7-3, 9-4, and 8-7. Schut got off to a bad start in the C final, giving up four in the first end, but fought back to narrow the gap to one by the end of the game. Nick Johnston, Colin MacKenzie, and Liam Kelly, with coaches Bill Hope and Lori Robinson, complete the runner-up Team Schut.

The winning Lenentine and MacFadyen rinks now advance to the 2018 New Holland Canadian Junior Curling Championships, Jan. 21 – 28 in Shawinigan Quebec.
