UPEI Women Panthers finish Round Robin tied for first, and advance to AUS Playoffs

Round robin play wrapped up this evening at the Subway AUS Curling Championships at Fredericton’s Capital Winter Club, and the UPEI Women Panthers, skipped by Veronica Smith, finished with a 5-1 win-loss record, tied for first with Dal and Mt. A. Memorial finished fourth at 3-3 and joins the others in the playoff round on Sunday, with UPEI playing Mt. A and Dal facing Memorial in the 9 am semi-finals, with the winners advancing to the 1 pm final.

UPEI finished the round robin with a pair of wins on Saturday – 6-2 over Memorial, and 8-6 over St. FX. PEI’s only loss in the Round Robin was in their first game, to Mt. A, who suffered their first loss, 8-5 against Dal., on Saturday evening.

The Panther team consists of the following players;

Veronica Smith (Skip) 5th year 

Sabrina Smith (Third) 2nd year

Chloe McCloskey (Second) 1st year 

Meghan Ching (First) 2nd Year

The 2018 U SPORTS/Curling Canada Curling Championships will be held in Leduc, Alta., hosted by the Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas.
