Semi-finals set at PEI U16 Ch’ships

The 10 am Sunday semi-final round is set at the Provincial Under 16 Curling Championships in Montague, with the winners advancing to the Boy’s and Girl’s finals at 2 pm.

On the Boy’s side, where all four teams make the semi-finals, the Cruz Pineau team from the Silver Fox in Summerside, who finished round robin play with a perfect 3-0 record, following a 10-4 win  Saturday morning over two-time defending champ Mitchell Schut  and his Cornwall team, will take on the fourth place Samuel Shaw foursome from the host club, who are 0-3 after round robin play. Second place Schut (2-1) will play third-place Chase MacMillan from Charlottetown, who is 1-2 following a lopsided win over Shaw this morning.

On the six-team Girl’s side, the Lauren Ferguson team from Charlottetown, Cornwall, and Crapaud, which includes two members of last year’s winning team, along with the Rachel MacLean rink from Cornwall, had Saturday off, after finishing round robin play with perfect 2-0 records in their respective pools on Friday, earning byes to the Sunday semis. Ferguson will be playing Gracie Gaudet and her Charlottetown squad, who fought back from a 4-2 deficit after six ends in their game against Cornwall’s Clara Jack today, scoring singles in the seventh and eighth ends to tie the game, and stealing four points in the eighth for an 8-4 victory. MacLean will take on Cornwall clubmate Sydney Howatt, who stole five in the sixth end to bring her game against Montague’s Victoria McDonald to an early conclusion.
