Four PEI rinks undefeated after Fall Fling opening day. The 2 unbeaten PEI jr women’s rinks play each other this morning

 

It was a great start on Friday for the three PEI finalist rinks for the Canada Games that are entered in the Fall Fling Junior Cashspiel at the Silver Fox in Summerside, with all three winning both their games. Also undefeated at 2-0 is the Ryan Abraham team from Charlottetown, which includes two-time Canada Games participant Tyler Smith. The two undefeated women’s rinks, skipped by Sydney Howatt and Lauren Ferguson, play each other at 8 am. The other two junior women’s teams, skipped by Rachel MacLean and Emily Sanderson, are 0-2. The Ferguson rink is from the Charlottetown, Cornwall, and Crapaud curling clubs, while the other PEI junior women’s teams entered are from Cornwall.

On the Junior men’s side, the Mitchell Schut Canada Games Finalist rink from Cornwall are undefeated at 2-0, with a big game coming up at 10:30 am against the Mitchell Cortello foursome from the Halifax Mayflower Club, who are also 2-0. Charlottetown’s Ryan Abraham team are also 2-0 and face Ethan Young of Halifax, also 2-0, at 9 pm in the last of their three games today. Cornwall’s Devin Schut team and the Cruz Pineau foursome from the host Silver Fox club are 0-2 after Friday play.

The finals go Sunday at 1 pm.

The Canada Games finalist teams, which also include the Chase MacMillan rink from Charlottetown, who are not entered in the Fall Fling, will be narrowed down to one junior men’s and one junior women’s team for the 2019 Canada Winter Games, at the Canada Games Trial finals, Dec. 7-9 in Cornwall.
