Engineering better sweeping

Three UPEI Engineering students — experienced curler Leslie Noye, along with Hammad Ahmed and Connor MacEwen, paid a visit to the Cornwall Curling Club today to do some work on a school project.

They hooked up a device to a curling brush to determine the best speed to sweep, using WCF-approved heads. Their device, invented by them, looks like a heart monitor. They also measured the temperature of the ice with a digital thermometer and took heat sensitive pictures. At the fastest sweeping and hardest pressure, the ice warmed 3 degrees! They will be making their full report available, probably after Christmas.
