The Lauren Ferguson and Tyler Smith rinks swept their way to the Pepsi provincial junior curling championships at the Charlottetown Curling Complex on Sunday morning.

Ferguson and Smith both won their respective C section finals to sweep all three sections to claim the titles. If a team won all three sections – A, B and C – they were declared champions, resulting in no championship round.

The Ferguson and Smith rinks will now represent P.E.I. in the 2019 New Holland Canadian junior men’s and women’s curling championships in Prince Albert, Sask., from Jan. 19 to 27. The Ferguson rink curls out of the Cornwall Curling Club while the Smith squad is based out of the Charlottetown Curling Complex.

Ferguson, third stone Katie Shaw, second stone Alexis Burris and lead Lexie Murray held on to edge clubmate Annika Kelly’s rink 8-7 in the title-clinching win. David Murphy is the coach of the Ferguson rink.

Smith and his Charlottetown Curling Complex team of third stone Ryan Abraham, second stone Alex MacFadyen and lead Ryan Lowery defeated Chase MacMillan of the host club 8-3 to win the junior men’s crown. Robbie Doherty is the coach of Team Smith.
