Veronica Smith rink beats Melissa Morrow team to win “A” Qualifier at PEI Scotties

The Veronica Smith team from the Cornwall Curling Club followed a three-point fourth end with a stolen deuce in five and a single in six on the way to an 8-2 win over the Melissa Morrow foursome from the Silver Fox in Summerside this afternoon to win the “A” Qualifier at the PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial Women’s Curling Championship, being played at the Western Community Curling Club in Alberton, in conjunction with the Men’s Tankard championship event. Under the modified triple knockout format, both Smith and Morrow now will compete in the “B” section, where Smith will take on the winner of a 7 pm game against Charlottetown clubmates Suzanne Birt and Lisa Jackson at 9 am on Friday. Also at 9 am Friday, Morrow takes on Charlottetown’s  Sarah Fullerton. The winners of those 9 am games face off in the “B” Qualifier match at 7 pm on Friday.
