Ch’town and Montague men, Sil. Fox, Crapaud and Cornwall women unbeaten after Curling Club Ch’ship Day One

Three draws have been played at the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary as the PEI Curling Club Championship got underway on Friday, with men’s teams from all seven dedicated PEI curling facilities, and women’s rinks from six of the seven competing.

Two teams, the Charlottetown Curling Club foursome skipped by Dennis Watts, and the Matthew MacDonald-skipped Montague squad, are 2-0 in the men’s competition, while three rinks, captained by Melissa Morrow out of the Silver Fox in Summerside, who were finalists in last year’s event, along with Tricia Sanderson from the Crapaud Community Curling Club, and the Kim Nicholson foursome from the Cornwall Curling Club are 1-0 in the women’s event. Tim Hockin and the Summerside men lost 8-7 to Montague in the only extra-end game of the day.

The round robin continues on Saturday and Sunday with 4 draws each day, with all the women’s teams seeing action at 9 am, six of the seven men’s team on the ice at noon, two women’s and one men’s rink playing at 4 pm, and six men’s teams wrapping up each day with the 8 pm draw.

The top three teams  from the round robin draws, after any tiebreakers, advance to their respective championship round on Monday and, if needed, Tuesday.

The provincial winners will advance to the national Curling Club Championship, normally held in November. Dates and location have not yet been announced.
