<p>Feb. 20-The Matthew MacLean rink from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary   will join the Veronica Smith foursome from the Cornwall Curling Club as   this year’s O’Connor Glass Provincial age 17 and Under curling   champions. The MacLean team, which includes third Marshall Smallman,   second Kevin Gallant, and lead Alan MacLean, with coach Glen MacLean,   beat the Tony Nabuurs team from Montague by a 5-3 score in this   morning’s final at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside.   Other members of the runner-up Nabuurs rink are Parker O’Connor, who   throws 4th stones for the team, second Noah O’Connor, and lead Tyler   Smith, with coach Arnold Nabuurs. Both rinks finished double round robin   play with identical 5-1 win-loss records, with Nabuurs winning their   first encounter 6-4, and MacLean taking the second 6-1.</p>

<p>On Sunday, the Smith rink went undefeated with a 7-0 win-loss record   to win the women’s title. The Jenny McLean rink from the host Silver Fox   club, with a 4-3 record, were the runners-up, with Smith beating them   in the best two out of three final round by 5-4 and 10-1 scores to take   the championship.</p>

<p>The MacLean and Smith teams now advance to the Atlantic Under 18 Curling Championships, April 6-8 at the <a href="http://www.bluenosecurling.com/" onClick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http://www.bluenosecurling.com']);">Bluenose Curling Club</a> in New Glasgow NS.</p>

<p>Four men’s and six women’s teams took part in this year’s provincial championship.</p>

<p>Feb. 19-The Veronica Smith rink from the Cornwall Curling Club went undefeated with a 7-0 win-loss record to win the women’s title today at the O’Connor Glass Provincial 17 and Under Curling Championships at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club in Summerside. The Jenny McLean rink from the host club, with a 4-3 record, are the runners-up, with Smith beating them in the best two out of three final round by 5-4 and 10-1 scores today to take the championship.</p>

<p>Other members of the winning Smith rink are Katie Fullerton, who holds the broom for the skip, but throws first stones, along with second Sabrina Smith, and Chloe McCloskey, who throws third stones. The rink is coached by Paul Smith. The runner-up McLean team includes third Aleya Quilty, second stone Lauren MacFadyen, lead Ava Whitney-Coulter, and coaches Pat Quilty and Sheila Compton. <p>The Carolyn Rose rink from Montague finished third with a 3-2 round-robin win-loss record, followed by Emily Keen and her Charlottetown/Crapaud team at 2-3, Cornwall’s Rachel O’Connor foursome at 1-4, and the Emily Hennessey rink from Charlottetown at 0-5.</p>

<p>Two teams, skipped by Matthew MacLean of the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O’Leary, and Tony Nabuurs of the Montague Curling Club finished the men’s double round robin with 5-1 win loss records, and advance to the men’s final, Monday at 10 am, with the winner moving on to the Atlantics in New Glasgow NS. The two teams split their round robin encounters, with Nabuurs winning the first 6-4, and MacLean taking the second 6-1.</p>

<p>The MacLean rink includes third Marshall Smallman, second Kevin Gallant and lead Allan MacLean, with coach Glen MacLean, while Nabuurs skips his rink but throws third stones, Parker O’Connor throws fourth rocks, Noah O’Connor plays second, and Tyler Smith is in the lead position. Arnold Nabuurs is the coach.</p>

<p>The other two teams in the men’s section, skipped by Alex MacFadyen of the Silver Fox, and Brooks Roche of Montague, finished at 1-5.</p>

<h2 align="center">17 & Under Coaching and Fairplay awards announced    </h2>

<p>Feb. 21-The Asham coaching award winners, as voted on by their coaching   peers, along with the Fair Play sportsmanship awards, voted on by all   the curlers, were announced at the conclusion of the O’Connor Glass   Provincial 17 and Under Curling Championships, which wrapped up   yesterday at the Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside.</p>

<p>The women’s Fair Play award went to skip Emily Keen from the Charlottetown Curling Club.</p>

<h2 style="text-align: center;">Silver Fox to host 2012 17 and Under</h2>

<p>The six-sheet Silver Fox Curling & Yacht Club in Summerside will be the host for the 2012 Provincial age 17 and Under curling championships from February 17-20, with the winning rinks advancing  to the Atlantic Under 18 Curling Championships, April 6-8 at the Bluenose Curling Club in New Glasgow NS. For men's and six women's teams have signed for this year's event, with the 17 & Under men playing a double round robin with the top two teams advancing to a sudden death final, and the women playing a single round robin with the top two teams advancing to a best two out of three final. If one men's team goes through the double round robin undefeated, they will be declared the champions without playing the championship game.</p>

<p>Last year's proviincial and Atlantic men's champions, the Alex Matters rink from Charlottetown are  this year's Pepsi Junior (age 20 & Under) Men's champions, and cannot compete as a team in this year's event. Last year's winning 17 and Under women's rink, the Amanda MacLean foursome from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O'Leary, were runners-up in this year's Pepsi Juniors. Aleya Quilty from that team is on the Jenny McLean rink this year out of the Silver Fox, while Youth Olympics bronze medallist Emily Gray is not participating in this event, and MacLean and third Kassinda Butler are out of the age category.</p>

<p align="center"><strong>PLAYOFF RULES</strong>          </p>

1. The top two   teams from the17 & Under women’s round robin, following any tiebreakers, will advance   to a best of three final round.<br>

The top two teams from the 17 & Under men's double   round robin, following any tiebreakers. will advance to a sudden death final<br>

In the event that one team goes   through the double round robin undefeated, they will be declared the winner,   without playing the one-game final.            <br>

3. The Provincial Events Coordinator will make all final decisions with regard to

administration of tie-breakers.<br>

4. Teams tied for a playoff position shall only be eliminated from the playoffs by

playing a tie-breaker game.<br>

5. The only playoff position that shall involve tie-breaker games is the final playoff

position.<br>

6. In the event of three or more teams tying for a playoff position, head to head

records will be used to seed teams in tie-breaker games<br>

7. If there is no clear

winner among the tied teams then the cumulative total (best 4) of each team’s

draws to the button will be used to seed teams in tie-breaker games.<br>

8. All tie-breakers will be played with the rocks from the

sheets assigned. Rock handles shall not be changed from

one set to another. </p>
