Kim Dolan wins PEI Mixed in Extra End
Kim Dolan, from the Charlottetown Curling Club, has become the first female skip to win the Provincial Mixed Curling Championship, with a 7-6 extra-end decision over Mike Gaudet of the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, in a conservatively-played final Tuesday afternoon at the Montague Curling Club. Dolan lead 3-2 after five ends, and 6-5 after nine. Gaudet scored a single in the 10th to force the extra end, and Dolan picked up one to win the championship. Dolan, a five-time winner of the PEI women's curling championship, is no stranger to the PEI Mixed, having won the event playing third stone in 1979, 1980, and 1981. Other team members are Kevin Champion, Marion MacAulay, and Mike Dillon. On Monday, Gaudet scored five points in end seven to defeat Dolan 10-2 in one of the "B" section semi-finals, and went on to win that section. This was Dolan's only loss in the event. Last year's winner, nine-time Mixed champion John Likely, was eliminated on Sunday from this double-knockout event.
The Dolan rink will advance to the Canadian Mixed Curling Championships next season, where they hope to follow in the footsteps of Alberta's Shannon Kleibrink, who this year became the first female-skipped team to win the national Mixed title.
Kim Dolan to play Mike Gaudet for PEI Mixed title
Summerside's Mike Gaudet, who was the runner-up last year, will get another chance at the PEI Mixed crown, as his Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club rink takes on Charlottetown's Kim Dolan rink Tuesday at 4 PM for the PEI Mixed Curling Championship at the Montague Curling Club. The Gaudet rink, which consists of Provincial Men's champion Gaudet, his sister Suzanne, a former world junior champion, who skipped the PEI women's championship rink the last two years, along with Craig Arsenault who was on Mike's men's team, and Nancy Cameron, fifth on Suzanne's women's rink, scored triples in the first and third ends Monday night, and went on to defeat 2002 Mixed champion Andrew Robinson 9-4 in the "B" final to advance to the championship game against "A" finalist Kim Dolan, a five-time winner of the PEI women's curling championship, who is looking to be the first female skip to win the PEI Mixed (she has won this event at 3rd in 1979, 80, and 81). Other members of the Dolan rink are Kevin Champion, Marion MacAulay, and Mike Dillon.
Earlier on Monday, Gaudet scored five points in end seven to defeat Dolan 10-2 in one of the "B" section semi-finals. This was Dolan's first loss in the event, after five straight wins. Gaudet also scored five points in one end on Sunday in a come-from-behind game to advance to the semi-final.

Other members of the Mike Gaudet rink are his sister Suzanne, along with Craig Arsenault and Nancy Cameron.

If either Robinson or Dolan win both "A" and "B" sections, they will take the championship; otherwise, a final game will be held Tuesday at 4 PM.
