Shawn Adams rink wins Windsor cashspiel, PEI’s Campbell is quarter-finalist

The Shawn Adams rink from the Mayflower Curling Club in Halifax beat their clubmates, the Ian Fitzner-LeBlanc foursome, by an 8-3 score this afternoon to win the final of the Swinamer’s TIM-BR MART Cashspiel at the Windsor Curling Club. The eight-end game came to a speedy conclusion in the sixth end, when Fitzner-LeBlanc attempted a freeze but was just off, giving Adams a double-takeout to score four points.

Other members of the Adams rink, who finished the weekend with an 8-2 record, are Paul Flemming, Jeff Hopkins, and Kelly Mittelstadt.

Charlottetown’s Robert Campbell skipped the only PEI team in the event, making it to the quarter-final round, where he lost to eventual winner Adams by a 5-3 score. The key end was the 6th, where Campbell attempted a thin double for four points, but just missed, giving Adams a steal of 1. Playing with Campbell this year are New Brunwswick import Steve Burgess, along with Jamie Newson and Rob Doherty.

The next stop on the men’s Atlantic Curling Tour is Saint John New Brunswick, where the Best Western TSA Curling Classic gets underway this Thursday, and concludes on Sunday at the Thistle Saint Andrews Curling Club.
Robert Campbell will be in this event as well, along with PEI rinks skipped by Tyler MacKenzie, and John Likely. Eighteen teams will compete, with $3000 going to the winning team, $2000 to the runner-up, $1250 to third and fourth place, and $925 to fifth and sixth.
