The Peter MacDonald rink from the Charlottetown Curling Club has won the PEI Labatt Tankard Men's Provincial Curling Championships, with an 8-5 win over defending champion and Charlottetown clubmate Andrew Robinson Monday night at the Crapaud Curling Club.
The MacDonald foursome of Peter MacDonald as skip, Peter Gallant, third, Mark O'Rourke, second, and Mark Butler, lead, advance to the Nokia Brier, March 3rd-11th at the Ottawa Civic Centre.
In Monday night's game, after blanking the first two ends, Robinson took the early lead with a deuce in the 3rd and 5th, while MacDonald had one in the fourth. Just as he had done earlier in the day, MacDonald came out strong in the second half, leading with a three-ender in the sixth. He picked up singles in the eighth and 9th, and scored two in the tenth when Robinson came up light on his final shot, as he attempted to come-around a front guard to draw to the four foot. Robinson picked up only one point in the second half, in the seventh end.
