Maple Leaf teams win 12 and Under Daniel McCarthy and Amanda MacLean, both from the Maple Leaf Curling Club in O'Leary, won the Investors Group Provincial 12 and Under Curling Championships, which wrapped up today at the Charlottetown Curling Club. McCarthy defeated another West Prince rink - Shawn Pitre of the Western Community club in O'Leary by an 8-1 score in the final. McCarthy stole the first end, and picked up a five-ender en route to the win. In the girls final, MacLean defeated Veronica Smith of the Cornwall Curling Club by a 10-3 score. Smith stole three points in the first end, but MacLean controlled the game and the points after that. MacLean pulled off an angle in-off shot in the 3rd to score four, and followed up with two steals of three points to seal the win.  Other members of the Daniel McCarthy rink are Mitchell Rowley, Kevin Gallant, and Jesse Coughlin. Team Chaperone was Eric McCarthy.  Playing with Amanda MacLean were Kassinda Bulger, Janelle Perry, and Stacy Gay. The team was coached by Glen MacLean and Blair Perry. In semi-final play, McCarthy defeated Charlottetown's Alex Mutch rink 10-1, while Veronica Smith blanked Monica LeBlanc of the host Charlottetown Curling Club by an 8-0 score. The Page round took place Sunday morning, with the first and second place finishers in the boys and girls A pools playing their counterparts in the B pools. In the girls 1 vs 1 game, Amanda MacLean from the Maple Leaf Curling Club doubled Monica LeBlanc of the host club 6-3 to win a bye into the 4 PM final. Smith won the 2 vs 2 game with a 6-2 victory over Emily Grey from the Maple Leaf club. In the boys section Page play, Shawn Pitre of Alberton hit against 2 in the sixth end to defeat Alex Mutch of Charlottetown 5-2 and advance to the final. McCarthy scored a triple in the last end of his closely fought Page game against Taylor McInnis of the host club to win 8-5. McInnis had one biting the button when McCarthy hit for three. In round robin play in the girl's section, Monica LeBlanc of the host club won the A pool with a 2-1 record, while Amanda MacLean from the Maple Leaf Curling Club went 3-0 in the B pool. Emily Grey from the Maple Leaf club finished in second place in the A pool, also with a 2-1 record (LeBlanc beat her in the round robin and was awarded 1st) to advance to the B Pool 2nd Place finishers game against Veronica Smith of the Cornwall Curling Club. In the boy's division, Alex Mutch of Charlottetown went undefeated in the A pool with a 4-0 record. Daniel McCarthy from O'Leary was second at 3-1. There was a 3-way tie for the lead in the B pool at 2-1. A draw to the button competition was held, with Alberton's Shawn Pitre rink finishing in 1st place. The other two teams, Matthew MacLean from the Maple Leaf, and Tyler McInnis of Charlottetown then played off in a tiebreaker for second place, which McInnis won by a 5-1 score. The last provincial curling championship of the season, the 2006 Provincial age 12 and Under, sponsored by Investors Group, is underway at the Charlottetown Curling Club. In previous years, the 12 and Under was held in conjunction with the 15 and Under, but it moves to a standalone event this season. First day's play had been completed at the Charlottetown Curling club with a lot of excellent shot making and close games on all sheets of ice. The abilities of these junior curlers has shown a marked increase since the start of the curling season and congradulations to them and their club's junior programs.. Saturdays update: The games continue today finishing Sunday with the playoffs. Junior Girls Round Robin completed with Emily Grey curling out of the Maple Leaf Curling Club tied with Monica LeBlanc of the host Charlottetown Curling Club for 1st place. With Monica having won during the Round Robin she achieves 1st place and will play in the 1 vs 1 at 10 AM versus the winners in Pool B with a 3 - 0 record, the Amanda MacLean Team from the Maple Leaf Curling Club. Emily having the 2nd place position plays in 2 vs 2 at 10 AM against Pool B 2nd Place finisher Veronica Smith of the Cornwall Curling Club. The Pool A Junior Boys was won by Charlottetown's Alex Mutch Team who went 4 - 0 in the Round Robin, 2nd place was by the Daniel McCarthy rink out of the Maple Leaf Curling Club with a 3 - 1 record while in the Pool B it was a 3 way tie for 1st; in the draw to the button for placecment the Shawn Pitre rink out of Alberton was closest, followed by the Mathew MacLean rink out of the O'Leary Maple Leaf club, and then Taylor McInnis of the Charlottetown Club. Mathew and Taylor play in the tiebreaker for 2nd place which was won by Taylors team. The Pitre Rink was placed first in their Pool and will play the Alex Mutch Team in the 1 vs 1 game at 10AM. Taylor McInnis will play Daniel McCarthy in the 2 vs 2 game at 10 am.

If teams are tied for final playoff spot, a draw to the button will be used for placement - the tiebreaker will be 4 ends. -
All teams must have an adult coach (certified or in progress of certification) or adult chaperone with them. -
The teams cannot be comprised of more than two players who have won a higher age provincial championship that season. -
Teams are to be either all boys or all girls (no mixed teams). Boys will play boys, girls will play girls. -
Teams/players cannot play in two sections. -
