IQALUIT, Nunavut, November 10 (CCA)…Saskatchewan and Manitoba remain undefeated at the 46th edition of the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, being presented by First Air, through seven draws at the Arniatok Arena.
Saskatchewan (Darrell McKee of Saskatoon), with a 5-0 record, and Manitoba (Sean Grassie of Winnipeg), at 4-0, were both idle on Monday evening.
However, Northern Ontario (Ian Fisher of Sault Ste. Marie) improved to 4-1, with a 10-3 pasting of New Brunswick (Scott Jones of Moncton). British Columbia (Greg Monkman of New Westminster) also stayed in contention with an 8-6 win over Ontario (Wayne Tuck of Brantford), as both teams are now at 3-2.
Meanwhile, Nova Scotia, skipped by Halifax’s 2002 Mixed and 2004 Brier champion Mark Dacey, got back on track with a 10-2 rout of Prince Edward Island (Bill Hope of Charlottetown), to move to 2-2. In the afternoon draw, PEI recorded a 5-3 win over Alberta, and now have a 1-3 win-loss record. In the other evening game, Newfoundland and Labrador (Andrew Mercer of St. John’s) won its first, 5-4 over Quebec (Simon Hebert of Thetford Mines) in an extra end.
The 12-team round robin continues with draws at 10:00 am, 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm ET through Thursday, with a final draw at 10:00 am on Friday. On Tuesday, PEI plays Ontario in the morning draw, and New Brunswick in the evening round.
Upon completion of the round robin, the first place team will advance directly to the final on Saturday, November 15, while the second and third place teams meet in a semi-final to determine the other finalist.
